If you have been registered as a company for at least two years and your turnover exceeds £75,000 then please read on…
I have found a company that is helping companies to become more environmentally friendly across the South East. Please head to http://www.sustainableroutes.co.uk to find out more information, but by registering your details and deciding on your own action plans, they can offer grants of up to £1000.
It is a route that we will definitely be pursuing to improve our performance and by working towards the ISO14001 standard we have identified several key areas that can improve ICE’s environmental impact.
Best of luck with the process,
John Murphy
Thank you for reading my second blog post of the year. The aim is to provide a printable checklist that Bursars can use to identify appropriate contractors for their schools, colleges and universities. The checklist is broken down into three areas: requirements of the contractor, their operatives, and finally the standard of work.
1. Firstly the contractor must:
1.1 Ensure that hassle and disruption is minimised.
1.2 Offer updates on the latest project developments by making photos and diary notes available.
1.3 Maintain a clean and tidy site for the duration of the project.
1.4 Go the extra mile to deliver value for money.
2. All operatives must:
2.1 Have a full CRB check.
2.2 Wear a clearly identifiable uniform.
2.3 Carry a company identification card at all times.
3. The standard of work must:
3.1 Meet the quality of ISO9001:2008.
3.2 Be compliant with the Health and Safety requirements set by CHAS or Safe Contractor.
3.3 Exceed your standards and expectations by finishing on time, and on budget.
I hope that the checklist can help to identify appropriate contractors for your needs, and ensure that successful, high quality work is completed. Thank you for reading.

I’d like to start the New Year by welcoming everyone to the new ICE website, and our first blog post of 2012. This post relates to public sector procurement, and how Architects and Surveyors can find more opportunities online, and use this as a method of winning new business.
The government are breaking down the route to public sector contracts, and a great source for leads is the mytenders.org portal. The site is updated daily, so I would advise checking back on a daily basis to ensure that key contracts don’t slip through the net. By creating an account you can filter the opportunities that are relevant to your business, and track them daily.
The key factors to consider when working towards larger contracts are 1) your company’s experience 2) is the opportunity local 3) can we deliver the contract. I hope that the portal is useful, and for further help and information do not hesitate to get in touch.
John Murphy.
